Christianity and the Feast Of Trumpets

I’ve come to be very baffled by the fact those who call themselves Christ followers fight so hard against learning about YHWH’s Feasts. We so easily adapted to learning about Christmas and Easter. We so easily adapt to new rules at work, school, our cities. But we just down right refuse to learn about something in the very book we say is YHWH/God’s word.

The only door to the Kingdom of Heaven, is through Jesus the Messiah. That is it. We don’t get saved so we can go to heaven after death, we get saved so we can enter into the Kingdom of Heaven which is now. A better way to look at the Kingdom of Heaven is Where God Reigns. So if we want to enter into Where God Reigns, we have to go through Jesus.

We don’t get to determine what the rules are in the Kingdom of Heaven, so if you walk through The Door, you have to be willing to lay down what you think and put on what God thinks. Whatever he says, goes. If you do not obey, you get arrest, and taken to The Door to be ousted. But because you know The Door/Jesus, he will say, it’s okay, I will pay for this one’s trespasses, let them stay. The question is, how many times do you want to be taken to The Door?

Jesus said, if you love me, you will keep my commandments. A better way to look at what he said is if you love me, you will do what I do. And Jesus, he kept the feasts. You can do your own research, it is scattered all through the Second Writings/New Testament. But even if you don’t want to keep the feasts like Jesus did, you should want to learn about them. One, because they are in our Bible, and two, because they all point to him!

Let’s get into what the Feast of Trumpets was, is, and will be.

Was

At Mt. Sinai, YHWH/God’s voice sounded like a trumpet.

The Feast of Trumpets was also known as Yom Teruah, the day of sounding the Shofar. God instructed the now free slaves in Leviticus 23 and Numbers 29:

23 The Lord said to Moses, 24 “Say to the Israelites: ‘On the first day of the seventh month you are to have a day of sabbath rest, a sacred assembly commemorated with trumpet blasts. 25 Do no regular work, but present a food offering to the Lord.’”

Leviticus 23, NIV

“‘On the first day of the seventh month hold a sacred assembly and do no regular work. It is a day for you to sound the trumpets. As an aroma pleasing to the Lord, offer a burnt offering of one young bull, one ram and seven male lambs a year old, all without defect. With the bull offer a grain offering of three-tenths of an ephah[a] of the finest flour mixed with olive oil; with the ram, two-tenths[b]and with each of the seven lambs, one-tenth.[c]Include one male goat as a sin offering[d] to make atonement for you. These are in addition to the monthly and daily burnt offerings with their grain offerings and drink offerings as specified. They are food offerings presented to the Lord, a pleasing aroma.

Numbers 29, NIV

The shofar/trumpet, for Jews, is a reminder of YHWH/God’s provision of a ram for Abraham to sacrifice instead of his son, Isaac. The shofar/trumpet was used to summon people, warn of battle, and announce the coronation of a king. Years of a king’s rule were counted by the Day of Trumpets.

The Feast of Trumpets day was an unknown day because they did not know when the New Moon would be seen.

Come on now, you have to see it, don’t you?

Is

The Jews celebrate Rosh HaShannah at this time, a time of liberation. They see it as a time of reflection, a time to examine our lives and return to YHWH/God. A time to stop, rest, and look to heaven.

Interestingly enough, the only day which meets all the astronomical events described in Revelation which is generally believed to be associated with Jesus’s birth, occurred on the Feast of Trumpets. There is still tension around this as many believe he was born around Passover, however, since Passover occurs in the middle of the month, there couldn’t be a new moon. Also, Passover, Pentecost, and Tabernacles were considered Pilgrim Feasts, when YHWH/God required all Jewish men to be in Jerusalem.

There are a lot of births and firsts associated with The Feast of Trumpets scattered throughout the Bible. A fascinating study if you care to embark on it.

Will Be

The sound of trumpets are associated with Jesus’s second coming. The Spring feasts were all fulfilled during Jesus’s first coming. It is believed the fall feasts will be fulfilled during his second coming. The Feast of Trumpets is expected to be significant in regards to Jesus’s second coming. In Jewish tradition, the right horn of the ram which was sacrificed was called the last trump.

52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.

I Corinthians 15 NIV

The shofar/trumpet is used for gathering people .

16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.

1 Thessalonians 4 NIV

The shofar/trumpet is used to signal the coronation of a king.

15 The seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, which said:

“The kingdom of the world has become
the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah,
and he will reign for ever and ever.”

Revelation 11 NIV

Digging into the Feasts brings a richness and depth to Jesus’s story. They are well worth your time. The remaining feasts to be fulfilled are the Day of Atonement and the Feast of Tabernacles. In Christian circles they may be referred to as Judgement Day and The Wedding Feast.
